Start with the finishes, keep the layout.
A kitchen refresh can begin with the parts you see every day: cabinet color, countertop appearance, backsplash and flooring. This tool explores how those finishes could look together. It does not measure your room or plan a structural remodel.
What should stay?
Choose “Keep original” for surfaces you want to retain. “Change finish” lets the AI explore their appearance while asking it to keep placement and dimensions. A lighter cabinet finish does not mean the existing wood can necessarily be painted or refinished; a contractor should inspect its condition first.
Take a photo that shows the whole working area.
Use daylight when possible. Include the cabinet runs, windows and appliances. Avoid panoramas and extreme wide-angle distortion. A single photo cannot show hidden damage, exact measurements or everything outside the frame.
Compare details, not just the overall mood.
Switch between Before and After to check openings, cabinet proportions and appliance locations. If a result changes something you asked to keep, return to a previous version or request a more limited edit. AI concepts should never replace a measured plan.
Turn your favorite into a useful conversation.
Save the image and prepare a summary of your requested changes. Ask which existing materials can stay, what must be measured and whether the scope affects electrical work, plumbing or permits. The summary is an expression of your preferences, not a contractor specification.
For budgeting, begin with the scope. Painting existing cabinets is different from replacing cabinets, counters and appliances. Our cost index and methodology provide context; they do not price the generated image.
