Is Renology free for homeowners?
Yes. Contractor matching, the guides and the calculators are all free for homeowners. We never charge you for any of it, and there is no obligation to hire anyone we introduce.
Is Renology legit?
Yes, and you can check it yourself. Renology is an independent home renovation magazine for California and Greater Seattle that also runs a free contractor matching service. Every contractor we introduce must hold an active license in the public state registry, which you can look up in under a minute at cslb.ca.gov or lni.wa.gov. We never ask homeowners for payment, and you are not obligated to hire anyone. Questions go to hello@therenology.com and we typically reply within 24 hours.
How does the matching actually work?
You tell us the project, the timeline and your ZIP code. A Renology advisor calls to understand the job, then hand-picks 2 to 3 pre-vetted licensed contractors in your area who specialise in that work. They reach out with free quotes and you decide from there.
How do I compare contractor matching services?
Most work one of two ways. On an open marketplace you post a job and many contractors respond. With a referral service, someone screens the job first and introduces a few. Renology is the second kind: an advisor talks with you about the project, then introduces 2 to 3 licensed contractors who do that specific work in your area. Whichever service you use, ask three things: is every contractor’s license checked, how many contractors will get your details, and do you pay anything.
How do you vet the contractors?
We check every contractor for an active state license (CSLB in California, L&I in Washington), general liability insurance, online reviews across Google, Yelp and BBB, and their project portfolio. A contractor without an active license does not get matched.
Which areas do you cover?
Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and the Inland Empire), the San Francisco Bay Area, and Greater Seattle from Everett to Tacoma. Sacramento, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Las Vegas are opening now: tell us about a project there and an advisor will get back to you as soon as we can match it. Anywhere else, we will tell you plainly if we cannot help.
